1969 Mustang Skull Art Car Falls On Hard Times - Prehistoric Hoarder With A Glue Gun Art Car

1969 Mustang Skull Art Car Falls On Hard Times - Art Car Central
1969 Mustang Skull Art Car Falls On Hard Times

This 1969 Ford Mustang Skull Art Car called Morbido 69 by Howard Howrad Vines has been a regular feature at all the artcar fests here in the San Franscisco Bay Area and especially at the How Berkeley Can You Be. This art car was spotted by Murilee Martin who posted it on Jalopnic and took a ton of photos of this fine car parked in Alameda, California.

Unfortunately this beauty has fallen on hard times like a lot of older arts do and was seen again by Murilee at a local pick and pull some years later. The story is the same, first the most ardent Mustang fanatics will strip away all the good parts, then once its down to "bare bones" no pun intended, it will then be taken down to the crusher for its final journey.

I am not sure what to call this art car but it definitely crosses over into a few genres. I think its a combination between burning man, mad max, prehistoric, Wrath of Khan, nack to the future, caveman feel to it. Its almost like it belongs to a prehistoric caveman hoarder with a glue gun. I am sure the guy is very nice, probably and accountant or something who goes to burning man every year.  I would love to meet the owner of this mystery mustang art car, so if you or anyone know more about this art car please contact us at Art Car Central.

BMW Art Car Legacy Dies with Jeff Koons

BMW Koons Art Car Candle Vigil Photoshop by Art Car Central
BMW Koons Art Car Candle Vigil Photoshop by Art Car Central

I have resisted the temptation to post the Jeff Koons BWM art car for a very long enough, but today I brake my silence. This BMW art car is everywhere, with gushy articles galore about how "great this" how "great that", yada yada yada. On and on it goes with article after article singing the praises of Jeff Koons. Dude!!!! BMW has produced some truly amazing art cars created by artist such as Alexander Calder, Roy Lichtenstein, Frank Stella and Andy Warhol. All these guys actually painted their cars, unlike Koons who barely scratched the back of the BMW with a sharpie to sign his name. The art on the BMW is a CAD generated art work that was printed on vinyl and applied to the bodywork and various spare parts. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against vinyl but at what point did Koons get on his CAD program and crank out this art work? BMW used Koons star power to promote their latest creation which is fine me, but in my opinion he can't hold a candle to the great artists who came before him. Unless BMW rethinks their choice of artist to represent their cars in the future, there will be a lot more candle vigils taking place.

The Phone Car Crushed by Collapsed Roof - Front Side

The world famous Phone Car created by Howard Davis was brutally damaged recently when the roof of the Avon Industrial Park collapsed due to snow build up. The Phone car will not be making any long distance calls anytime soon, but with a little TLC and some bondo it can be up running soon. Our best wished for a speedy recovery goes out to you.

The Super Duper Trooper Raygun by Robynn Sanders - RIP

The Super Duper Trooper Raygun by Robynn Sanders - RIP
The Super Duper Trooper Raygun in all its former glory.

The Super Duper Trooper Raygun by Robynn Sanders - Before The AccidentI am sorry to announce the passing of The Super Duper Trooper Raygun a Toyota SUV created by Robynn Sanders who recently finished a painting a MINI Couper called Animated Robots. It seems that the Raygun had a close encounter of the wrong kind and is now headed to the "Yard" on its last and final mission.

Here is what Robynn had to say about her art car.

"The Super Duper Trooper Raygun is
Highly Mobile, Interplanetary, Multi-Functional, Search & Destroy, Deatomizing Super Duper Trooper Raygun

Designed to protect earthlings from evil invaders. Equipped with Electro-fizzilating Cosmic Clouding Bubbles that cleanse the world of dirty doing, also Dual-action bastardy deed Destroying Darts, High Intensity Multi-wavelength Cosmic Rays that de-atomize evil invaders and last but not least Hypersensitive Sound Blasters."
It was a cosmic and complex car, with many life saving properties and it will be missed.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Art Car - Happy Fridays:)

I woke up this morning and glitter was on my mind so I remembered that Twinkle Twinkle Little Car was sent in by Nicole Strine some time ago and decided it was time to put her up on Art Car Central. This Honda Civic, I think, and is covered in thousands of cut up CD's donated by a few software companies in Texas. Nicole and her Husband spent about 6 years working on the car and unfortunately this beauty is not longer with us. After it was vandalized they scraped all the CD's off the car and some time later was broadsided at an intersection. May she put a twinkle in your eye today and may she live forever here on Art Car Central.

Grooovalicious Purple Princes of Peace Art Car - Avril Hughes

Grooovalicious Purple Princess of Peace art car was created by Avril Hughes, just another fellow human being... It was created in March of 2003 as a parade for peace in response to the impending invasion of Iraq and it features the nature of the land on one side and ocean life on the other. I first met her at Art Car Fest and she has been attending every year, unfortunately her art car needs some major repairs and was unable to drive to this years art car event. She is a wonderful lady and very funny as you can see in this video of her doing her stand up comedy about art cars.
