3 Cars + 3 Artist + 3 Skaters??? = The 3 Chevy Sonic Urban Art Car Series
What do you get when you have 3 Cars + 3 Artist + 3 Skaters??? Obviously you have the Chevy Sonic Urban Art Cars Series. But if you ask me I don't really know how the math works out on this one especially when you add three skates into the mix but the folks over at Chevy know something I don't.
Not to be out done by Avis Art Cars, Chevy commissioned three artists to paint their new Chevy Sonics as part of their Urban Art Series. The series was sponsored by Chevy to bring together artists of different mediums. More specifically they paired urban skaters with visual artists to give the "fuel efficient" Chevy Sonic an urban art makeover that would let the car feel more "coooooomfortable" in urban settings.
In Part One the Chevy Sonic got the once over by Queens, New York, artist Alice Mizrachi who was paired up with pro skateboarders Rodney Torres and Eli Reed. Here is what we got, a Chevy with a cityscape wrapped around the car with Flushing Meadows Unisphere in Queens on the hood.

In Part Two Brooklyn tattoo artist John Reardon to put down some fresh ink on a Chevy Sonic, inspired by Queens, NY native Luis Tolentino showing off his skateboarding skills. The sonic got a complete flame job with skulls called "death" and the good part, the car didn't feel a thing.

Volvo is the latest company to get in on the art car band wagon along with BMW, Tesla and many others.
Last February at a rail station in Zurich ten groups of Swiss street artists painted and repainted Volvo S60 and canvas. It took five days to record the event with a camera mounted across from the exhibit that took a photo of the artists’ accomplishments every five seconds. The video by the way is fantastic. Over a period of five days approximately 35,000 commuters got a chance to see these graffiti street artist work their craft on a volvo art car.
One of the artist took advantage of the time-lapse photography and made their project into a very humporous stop-motion animation
“Our intentions with this art project was to express and emphasize in a creative and innovative way the design of the Volvo S60,” said Volvo Cars Switzerland president Anouk Poelmann.
The cars turned out great but its too bad they had to paint over each peace, it would have been great to see each of these art cars out on the road turning heads.

This incredible diesel rod is a 1928 Dodge 4door sedan that was chopped 4 inches and channeled 3 inches. It was created by Steve Darnell, a welder by trade, via a site called Welderup. The power comes from a Cummins diesel motor out of a 1998 Dodge pick-up. The motor sports a twin turbo set-up and Fass Fuel System. The engine produces 1200 lb/ft torque and runs the quarter mile in the mid 12 second range. The frame is completely hand built to accommodate the amount of stress coming from the diesel motor. A four-link and air ride suspension keeps the rear tires in check, while the front end is a mostly stock 1929 Ford 1-ton axle. It basically smokes.
